The anticipated game Ark: Survival Ascended has launched on PC and quickly became one of Steam's best-selling games. However, performance issues have impacted the gaming experience negatively, reflecting in a 'mixed' user review rating of 42% dominated by performance complaints. The game, developed by Studio Wildcard, is an Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original dinosaur survival game, Ark: Survival Evolved.
Despite topping Steam's top 100 played games list, users reported crashes, stutters, and fps issues, criticizing the game studio's decision to release a remaster with such problems. The game's PC system requirements do note that an SSD is required, possibly contributing to some users' issues.
While the game is already available on PC, the console launch has been delayed to November due to 'critical issues' in the multiplayer version of the game. Studio Wildcard assured that it's working to make the game as good as it can be for its November launch and expressed gratitude for the support from fans.
Studio Wildcard also mentioned future plans to enable crossplay between Steam and consoles once it has entered a quicker certification process. These changes are expected to ensure a smoother console launch and provide a more content-rich and stable modding experience.
