Bethesda is committed to the sci-fi RPG, Starfield, planning to release annual story expansions. The first expansion, Shattered Space, debuts in late 2024, with subsequent expansions anticipated. Todd Howard mentioned the next expansion will mirror the scope of Fallout 4's Far Harbor, focusing on a more traditional Bethesda experience despite the criticism surrounding the game's procedural generation. Starfield has amassed 14 million players since its September 2023 launch on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and Game Pass.

Will Starfield have a sequel?

Though a sequel is possible, it may be delayed with Elder Scrolls 6 expected no earlier than 2028 and another Fallout game in the pipeline.

Starfield, Bethesda's first new IP in years, launched after Microsoft acquired parent company ZeniMax Media in 2021. It aims to blend expansive roleplaying quests with respectable combat. Despite criticism over its exploration mechanics, Bethesda remains focused on supporting and expanding the game, with its first expansion set to create a more handcrafted experience similar to previous titles like Fallout and Elder Scrolls.
