CBS developing Van Helsing series that’s pure X-Files

CBS is developing a new Van Helsing TV series with a modern twist. Unlike traditional interpretations of the character, this version will focus on Dr. Abraham Van Helsing as a contemporary investigator solving cases in New York City. Working alongside his ex-partner, FBI special agent Mina Harker, the show will blend monster-hunting with procedural drama elements, reminiscent of The X-Files. Jonathan Lee, known for his work on Netflix and BBC's Lockerbie, is set to write the series while Rob Doherty from Elementary is one of the executive producers. The show follows numerous adaptations of the Van Helsing character, including a teen-focused series currently in development by Kit Williamson and a 2004 film starring Hugh Jackman.
