World of Warcraft: Classic, following the conclusion of its Wrath of the Lich King expansion, will introduce the Cataclysm expansion next, according to a report by IGN. Cataclysm, which was somewhat controversial among players at its original release, completely revamped Azeroth, triggered the disappearance of old questlines while introducing new ones, and brought in goblins and worgen as playable races. It also saw the activation of a Titan Rune dungeon system and an expansion of collections UI, both of which will be maintained for the Classic version.

In addition, Blizzard launched the Classic's Season of Discovery, described as a more experimental version of World of Warcraft. Here, players can build new characters up to a level cap of 25, with unique class-altering abilities allowing transformations into unconventional roles such as mage healers or tanking warlocks. The Season of Discovery will eventually feature a revised version of the Blackfathom Deeps raid, with plans to gradually increase the endgame level cap, adding more content over time. The Season of Discovery kicks off on November 30.
