Dark universe eclipses Super Nintendo World buzz

Jan 30, 2024 4:02 PM

Universal's Epic Universe theme park is set to launch in 2025 with several attractions, including the eagerly anticipated Super Nintendo World. While initially planned for a 2024 opening, Super Nintendo World's debut has been postponed to 2025. The park will transport guests to a world inspired by Nintendo's most beloved franchises, with a warp pipe entrance, themed cafe, gift shop, and a variety of other Nintendo-centric experiences. Despite these exciting developments, there's an unexpected twist—the revival of the Dark Universe. Once Universal's ambitious plan to create a cinematic universe akin to the MCU with its classic monsters, the Dark Universe faltered after its first film. Now, it seems Universal will repurpose the concept into a themed attraction at Epic Universe, an interesting move considering the project's previous collapse.

What attractions will be available at Universal's Epic Universe?

Universal's Super Nintendo World will be a highlight of Epic Universe, set to open in 2025. Other themed worlds will include a Wizarding World area, How to Train Your Dragon area, and against all odds, a world inspired by Universal's defunct Dark Universe cinematic attempt.

The Dark Universe originally sought to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe by connecting films featuring Universal's classic movie monsters. It launched with the 2017 movie "The Mummy" starring Tom Cruise but failed to gain traction with audiences and critics. Despite this setback, Universal's decision to incorporate the Dark Universe into the park could signal a creative repurposing of the concept. Blending nostalgia with modern attractions, this initiative offers a new opportunity for fans to experience Universal's monstrous heritage in an interactive and engaging way.
