Devil May Cry Creator Almost Made Dino Crisis Anime

Nov 07, 2024 9:37 PM

In a recent revelation, Adi Shankar, the creator behind Netflix's upcoming Devil May Cry series, shared that his original pitch to Capcom was aimed at reviving the beloved Dino Crisis franchise. Shankar expressed admiration for the first two games in the series, celebrating their survival horror elements, while lamenting the decline in quality seen in Dino Crisis 3. Despite his passion for Dino Crisis, the deal ultimately led him to Devil May Cry, a twist that has left many Dino Crisis fans disappointed as they continue to wait for a revival of the series. While there are no current plans for a new Dino Crisis game, Shankar hinted that he might one day explore the possibility of resurrecting the franchise, although fans will have to wait for Devil May Cry's release, scheduled for April 2025.

Will there ever be a new Dino Crisis game?

As of now, there are no confirmed plans for a new Dino Crisis game. The last installment was released in 2003, and recent comments from Capcom and its focus on other franchises, like Monster Hunter, make a revival seem unlikely in the near future. However, Adi Shankar hinted at a hopeful possibility of reviving the series someday.

Dino Crisis is a survival horror franchise developed by Capcom, created by Shinji Mikami, known for its combination of intense horror gameplay and dinosaur threats. The series gained acclaim for its atmospheric tension and innovative gameplay mechanics, particularly in the first two games. Fans have long awaited a sequel, especially given the series' lasting impact on the genre, but with Capcom's recent priorities, it remains uncertain if a new entry will emerge in the gaming landscape.

It’s always a bummer when a beloved franchise like Dino Crisis gets benched while the gaming world focuses on other heavy-hitters, but I love that Adi Shankar hasn’t given up hope. Fingers crossed that we’ll see a revival someday—those survival horror vibes with dinosaurs were a recipe for greatness
