DRAGON'S DOGMA 2 TO RUN AT UNCAPPED FRAME RATE, SPARKS FAN CONTROVERSY

Mar 06, 2024 10:29 AM

The highly anticipated Dragon's Dogma 2 has stirred up the gaming community with news about its frame rate capabilities on console platforms. Capcom has announced that the sequel to the cult favorite action RPG will target around 30 fps on consoles, without any option for players to prioritize performance. This decision has left many console gamers disappointed, as they were expecting the potential to leverage higher frame rates, possibly up to 60 fps. Despite the fact that the game maintained a relatively stable 30 fps during previews, concerns have been raised about frame pacing, which could affect the smoothness of gameplay. Xbox gamers may find some solace in Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, but PlayStation 5 users may lack this feature. Capcom may still refine performance ahead of the game's release on March 22, and further insights might be shared during Capcom's Highlights broadcast on March 7.

Is there any possibility of a performance mode being added to Dragon's Dogma 2 for console players who prefer higher frame rates?

Currently, Capcom has not announced any plans for a performance mode that would allow console players to choose a higher frame rate at the cost of graphical fidelity in Dragon's Dogma 2. The company is aiming for an uncapped frame rate that hangs around or above 30 fps, but with only one graphical mode available, an optional higher frame rate setting does not seem to be in the cards at this stage.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is the sequel to the original Dragon's Dogma game, which was released in 2012 by Capcom. The first game is known for its unique "pawn" system, where players can recruit other player's characters to aid in battle. Its open-world fantasy setting, engaging combat, and deep character customization earned it a dedicated fanbase. With the announcement of Dragon's Dogma 2, fans have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of the series, with the expectation of improved mechanics and modernized features suitable for the latest console generation.
