In the inaugural AI Safety Summit, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) would replace the need for jobs in the future. Musk, in conversation with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, commented that AI would become smarter than the smartest human, capable of all tasks. Musk also noted the dual nature of AI, as a "magic genie problem," which signifies potential dangers and emphasized on its regulation.
Musk's companies, including car manufacturer Tesla, have invested in AI technologies and incorporated them into their operations. In addition, a Musk-owned AI startup named xAI is set to debut its AI model soon. The use of AI has surged in 2023, spreading across numerous sectors, with AI chatbots like Bard and ChatGPT standing as notable advancements.
While AI can bring advantages, it also has its issues, including the dissemination of factually incorrect or plagiarized content. The potential threats it presents to various industries, such as entertainment and gaming, are also concerning. In response to these threats, unions have begun pushing for protective measures in their contracts. The U.S government has also begun to address the unregulated growth of AI, with President Joe Biden signing an executive order to enforce new industry standards for AI development and application.
