Florida Joker demands cash for GTA 6 cameo

Dec 10, 2023 9:30 AM

The internet is buzzing with the recent demand from a man known as the 'Florida Joker', Lawrence Sullivan, who claims that Grand Theft Auto 6's reveal trailer features a character resembling him. Sullivan's resemblance to the Joker went viral after his mugshot surfaced in 2017. He now seeks "a million or two" from the game's developer, Rockstar Games, for what he believes is the use of his likeness without permission.

The first trailer of Grand Theft Auto 6 pokes fun at various events in Florida, where the game's fictional setting is based. A character in the trailer, sporting tattoos similar to Sullivan's, is shown in an arrest photo, which he suggests is modeled after him. Sullivan took to TikTok shortly after the trailer's release to express his suspicions. Rockstar Games has yet to respond to the situation. Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

Is Rockstar Games facing a lawsuit over a character in the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer?nAs of now, Rockstar Games has not publicly addressed the claim from Lawrence Sullivan, a.k.a. the 'Florida Joker', that his likeness was used without permission in the Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer. It remains to be seen whether this will result in legal action.

Looks like Rockstar might've snagged a bit too much inspiration from the Sunshine State's wildcard, which could spell a legal side quest they weren't planning for. It's all fun and memes until someone slaps you with a real-life wanted level, especially with a game as hotly anticipated as GTA 6.

Rockstar's knack for mirroring and poking fun at real-life personalities and events is part of what gives the GTA series its edgy charm, but if the 'Florida Joker' incident escalates, they might have to navigate some real-life legal drama. It's gonna be interesting to see if this claim gains any traction or if it'll just be another blip on the radars of gamers eagerly counting down to GTA 6's release.

Lawrence Sullivan's claim to his likeness in the GTA 6 reveal is like something straight out of the game's storyline – unexpected and dramatically controversial. While it's yet another layer of buzz Rockstar probably didn't anticipate, it's emblematic of the blurred lines between virtual worlds and our reality, especially with a franchise that loves to riff off real-world personas and events.
