The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is working hard to protect us all from being taken advantage of. They recently proposed a new rule designed to ban what's called 'junk fees'. These can show up as hidden costs when you're buying something and are generally seen as quite sneaky.
Junk fees are annoying and harmful, often going unnoticed by us until it's too late. Think about it this way - they're like little six-legged bugs digging into our pockets and stealing our money. Not fun at all, right? You can find these fees in a lot of places, like when you're overdrawing money from a bank, booking a hotel room or even buying a concert ticket.
For instance, ticket selling companies like Ticketmaster and Live Nation are currently facing lots of criticism. They messed up big time during tickets sales for Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour.' Bots bought loads of tickets only to resell them at outrageous prices on other websites.
News like this made the Biden Administration suggest that ticketing companies should tell us ticket prices upfront. Plain and simple, no hidden costs.
The proposed rule goes even further, aiming to prevent businesses from tricking people about the real cost. If it gets accepted, companies will need to be up front about these fees. That would definitely make buying stuff more straightforward!
In other news, you might want to check out 'Star Trek: Infinite' if you're a fan of sci-fi. On a different note, game reviewers seem to have mixed feelings about 'Lords of the Fallen.' Lastly, for anime lovers out there, Crunchyroll has just launched a free 24-hour channel. Enjoy!
