The Creative Director of Spider-Man 2, Bryan Intihar from Insomniac Games, has addressed the debate over the game's cost in relation to its length that arose prior to the game's release."We want to give them the experience that's worth it," Intihar told the BBC. Backlash emerged amongst fans when someone playing ahead of the October 20 release date leaked information that achieving 100% completion (Platinum Trophy) took approximately 25 to 30 hours, sparking discussions on whether the game was too short given its full price tag.
Several IGN team members shared their completion times too, with the fastest player completing the story in 18 hours and the slowest at 25 hours before credits rolled. Insomniac's Spider-Man 2, a full-priced PlayStation 5 game, costs $69.99, no different than other lengthy games like Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, and Diablo 4, with Platinum times far beyond Spider-Man 2's.
Intihar insists the focus of Insomniac is less on completion time, and more on quality, and said the aim is to ensure players feel their investment is worthwhile, regardless of the length of the game. Furthermore, the company plans to add a New Game Plus mode alongside other new features by the end of 2023 to enhance the game's value, but no full-on downloadable content (DLC) has been confirmed yet. As per IGN's 8/10 review, "Marvel's Spider-Man 2 delivers Insomniac's best tale yet and, despite its open world falling short, is a reliably fun superhero power trip."
