God of War Ragnarok Review Bombed for PSN Account Requirement

Sep 22, 2024 9:44 AM

God of War Ragnarok's recent launch on Steam has faced significant criticism, resulting in a Mixed rating largely due to the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account for gameplay. Many PC gamers looking to enjoy this highly-anticipated title have expressed discontent with the necessity of linking a PSN account, which they find less relevant for single-player experiences. In addition to this controversial requirement, several reviews have pointed out technical issues such as crashes and visual glitches. Historically, PlayStation has had a track record of subpar PC ports, adding to the community's frustrations. Despite this, the game is Steam Deck verified, allowing players to experience Kratos's journey on-the-go.

Why is God of War Ragnarok receiving so many negative reviews on Steam?

The negative reviews for God of War Ragnarok on Steam primarily stem from the mandatory PSN account requirement to play the game, alongside technical issues including crashes and stuttering that have marred the overall experience for players.

God of War Ragnarok is a sequel to the acclaimed God of War (2018) and follows the Norse adventures of Kratos and his son, Atreus. The series is renowned for its rich storytelling, character development, and immersive gameplay. Originally launched for PlayStation consoles, its availability on PC marks a significant step for many players eager to delve into Sony's exclusive titles, albeit met with the current backlash over the PSN account requirement.

It’s always a bummer when a highly-anticipated title like God of War Ragnarok hits a snag on PC, especially with that mandatory PSN account requirement—feels kind of unnecessary for a solo experience. Hopefully, the team can patch up those technical issues soon, because Kratos deserves a smoother ride on the Steam Deck
