The European council has passed a new law mandating the recyclability of batteries used in devices like smartphones, tablets, and handheld consoles.

According to this law, starting from 2027, users should be able to replace the batteries in these devices themselves.

This legislation will impact future models of portable consoles such as the Switch, the Steam Deck, and the ROG Ally.

The new regulation specifies that users should be able to replace the battery using tools sold commercially.

Companies like Apple, which usually requires specialized tools to replace batteries and other parts, will also be affected by this law.

Spanish Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, stated that recycling batteries is a crucial step towards reducing emissions.

Discarded batteries house many valuable resources that need to be reused, rather than relying on third countries for supply.
