As we celebrate the five-year anniversary of Disco Elysium, two new studios comprising former ZA/UM developers have announced their own spiritual successors to this acclaimed narrative RPG. Dark Math Games has unveiled XXX NIGHTSHIFT, set in 2086 at a mysterious ski resort in Antarctica, promising a rich single-player detective experience. Meanwhile, Longdue Games is developing a psychological RPG that builds on the legacy of Disco Elysium, focusing on narrative depth and player choices that affect both the game's environment and characters. With both projects echoing Disco Elysium’s innovative gameplay mechanics, fans can anticipate thrilling stories that delve into the complexities of human psyche and moral dilemmas.

What are the new games being developed by the former Disco Elysium team?

Former Disco Elysium developers have formed two new studios. Dark Math Games is making a game called XXX NIGHTSHIFT, a detective RPG set in 2086, while Longdue Games is creating a psychological RPG that explores deep narratives and player choices.

Disco Elysium, released in 2019, is celebrated as one of the greats in the RPG genre. Its unique approach to storytelling and gameplay, where dialogue and choices take precedence over combat, revolutionized narrative design in video games. The game received multiple Game of the Year awards and was expanded with voice acting and more content in a version titled The Final Cut. Despite its critical and commercial success, the developer ZA/UM faced internal strife, leading to a halt in any sequels, but the spirit of Disco Elysium continues through these new projects from its former team members.
