Last Chance: Log Into MultiVersus for Offline Play

May 30, 2025 12:13 PM

MultiVersus, the free-to-play platform fighter by Warner Bros. Games, is set to cease operations today, effectively removing its online play capabilities. Players have only a short window to log in and create a local save file to continue enjoying offline play after the servers shut down. The game had shown potential upon its beta launch in 2022 but faced challenges including dwindling player numbers and dissatisfaction with monetization practices. Despite initial support, Warner Bros. announced that the game would be delisted and unavailable for online play following poor financial performances of several other titles.

The shutdown officially occurs today at 5 PM BST/9 AM PT, making it imperative for those interested in offline gameplay to log in as soon as possible. Players must have signed in between February 4 and the closure date to keep their local save, which allows access to all previously earned content without further costs. This demise follows a series of setbacks for Warner Bros. in the gaming industry, leading to the departure of its Games president and the closure of several game studios.

What happens to my MultiVersus game after the servers shut down?

After the shutdown, if you have logged in before the closure, you can continue to play MultiVersus offline. A local save file will be created, ensuring all your earned and purchased content remains accessible.

Released in 2022, MultiVersus quickly gained attention for its roster featuring iconic characters from various Warner Bros. franchises, reminiscent of titles like Super Smash Bros. Its attempt to mix classic platforming with a diverse cast ultimately fell short due to persistent issues with game balance, monetization models, and player retention. Despite its well-received beta launch, its journey ended on a disappointing note with today's shutdown.

It's always a bummer when a game with such a fun crossover concept fizzles out, but at least the offline save option softens the blow. Maybe this’ll be a wake-up call for Warner Bros. to rethink their live-service approach.

Man, MultiVersus had so much potential with that killer roster, but it’s wild how fast a live-service game can crash and burn. At least they’re letting players keep their unlocks offline—small mercy for those who stuck with it. Another live-service casualty—feels like Warner Bros. just couldn’t nail the balance between fun and monetization. Here’s hoping the offline mode keeps the spirit alive for the dedicated fans.
