In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister in the hit series Game of Thrones, expressed she wished for a different ending for her character. Headey stated that herself and co-star Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark, fantasized about a final showdown between their characters, with Headey's character returning as Jamie Lannister. However, the series creators decided on a different path.
Cersei's actual end saw her buried under rubble with her brother, an ending that Headey admits was met with a lukewarm response from fans and critics. Regardless, the actress understands why not all dream scenarios could have been written into the final season and has no issues with how Cersei's story wrapped up, recognizing the difficulty in finalizing such a significant show.
Since the series concluded, Headey confessed she hasn't kept up with the spin-off series House of the Dragon, finding it too strange to watch. She reminisced on the close bonds formed with her co-workers and the impact the series had globally. Despite not missing Game of Thrones itself, Headey expressed some grief over the end of those relationships.
Co-star Conleth Hill, who played Varys in the series, was more critical of the ending, voicing his disappointment with the final two seasons when the writers at HBO overtook the original material from author George R.R. Martin.
