Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese has defended the lengthy 3.5-hour run-time of his new movie, "Killers of the Flower Moon." This makes it even longer than the already extensive Oppenheimer, released earlier this year. In a chat with Hindustan Times, Scorsese pushed back against criticism, arguing, "People can watch TV or theatre performances for longer durations, so why not give cinema the same respect?"
The famous director also raised concerns about the growing dominance of blockbuster franchises, asserting that this perception of what constitutes a movie necessitates a stronger pushback from filmmakers themselves. Despite this, Scorsese admitted that he sees hope for cinema's survival, referencing the simultaneous debut of Barbie and Oppenheimer as a potentially "perfect storm" for reviving the film industry.
"Killers of the Flower Moon," featuring a deep portrayal of the Osage tribe and the notorious murders against them in the 1920s, received a high score of 9/10 from IGN. The review described it as one of Scorsese's most brutal yet thoughtful films to date.
