Warner Bros. Games has launched Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a mobile-exclusive action RPG, just over a month after the debut of Mortal Kombat 1. Developed by NetherRealm, the free game is now available on iOS and Android platforms. Game mechanics involve party-based, automated combat with the option for players to activate special abilities and combinations, including the iconic Fatalities. Its extensive story mode features Shinnok's destructive ambitions, with iconic characters such as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Sub-Zero going head-to-head with villains like Shang Tsung, Kano, and Shao Kahn.
The game also boasts Boss Tower and Chasm modes along with an Arena that allows player versus player seasons. "In Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, players can unleash total mayhem in strategic, fast-paced battles with up to 10 characters at once," affirmed Ed Boon, chief creative officer of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat. The release coincides with an influx of activity in the Mortal Kombat universe including new DLC characters and a second Mortal Kombat movie in production.
Yet, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm have faced criticism concerning the subpar Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1. In response, Ed Boon promised enhancement updates, the first of which was launched last week. This news was shared by Wesley Yin-Poole, the UK News Editor for IGN.
