Netflix drops epic 'Avatar' series sneak peek

Excitement builds as Netflix teases the upcoming premiere of "Avatar: The Last Airbender," a live-action series slated to launch globally on February 22, 2024. The beloved animated series is being reimagined in a new form, following the journey of Aang, the young Avatar tasked with mastering the elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air to restore balance to a world in turmoil due to the Fire Nation's threat. With an eight-episode run, each lasting an hour, the series boasts a solid cast including Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), and the acclaimed Ken Leung with Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Daniel Dae Kim.

Showrunner Albert Kim addressed the pressures of continuing the project after original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino left in 2020. Emphasizing the challenge of adapting a series already cherished by millions, Kim reveals certain adjustments to make it suitable for serialized drama, tweaking the original storylines to resonate with a new audience. The creators expressed their earlier vision for the show wasn't aligning with the direction Netflix was taking, leading to their departure.
