There's been a massive surge in Fortnite's player base following the launch of its OG update, which reintroduces the game's original battle royale map. Reliable stats from Fortnite.GG show a 24-hour peak of 3.9 million concurrent players, a major increase from the usual two million in prior months. The OG update arrived on November 2, letting veteran players revisit popular sites such as Tilted Towers and Paradise Palms. All movement enhancements since Chapter 1 remain in play. The return to its roots comes amidst financial hardships for publisher Epic Games, leading to recent layoffs. With Fortnite's growth now primarily driven by creator content and revenue sharing, the company's CEO Tim Sweeney admits it's a lower-margin business than the early days of Fortnite Battle Royale. This OG update will remain throughout the current season, which will last four weeks. However, given its newfound popularity, there's a chance Epic could retain elements of the OG map in future.
