CD Projekt Red has announced Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1, set to release on December 5 alongside the Ultimate Edition. The upcoming update will introduce a fully operational metro system within Night City, a feature shown in the game's original and Phantom Liberty trailers. Players will be able to travel between 19 stations after the Konpeki Plaza sequence, either using the metro as a fast-travel option or experiencing the ride, with the option to skip at any time.
Additionally, the update will improve boss fights, such as the one against Adam Smasher, which has been criticized by fans for lack of challenge. Furthermore, car races will become replayable, with victories granting discounts on new vehicles from the Auto Fixer website. Five new motorcycles and Johnny Silverhand's Porsche 911 will also be added to the game, along with a quest to unlock the iconic car.
Improved vehicle mechanics will enable new actions such as wheelies and flips on motorcycles, and players will now be able to throw knives and axes while riding. The notorious blocked-off highway section has been overhauled to feature busy traffic. The game's accessibility settings have been expanded with a dedicated menu, offering options like disabling hacking minigame timers. The full details on the accessibility revamp will be disclosed closer to release.
The developer also teased additional features such as romantic partner hangouts but will reveal the full patch notes before the update goes live. This substantial update follows the previous 2.0 patch accompanying the Phantom Liberty expansion, which significantly improved several gameplay aspects and addressed various fan theories and Easter eggs.
In their review of the Phantom Liberty expansion, IGN praised Cyberpunk 2077's significant turnaround, attributing its success to both the expansion and the improvements from the 2.0 Update.
