What legal action has Nintendo taken against the makers of Switch emulator Yuzu?

Nintendo of America has filed a lawsuit against Tropic Haze, the development team behind the Switch emulator Yuzu. The emulator allows users to play Nintendo Switch games on Windows, Linux, and Android devices without permission. The legal action comes in the wake of the popular game "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" being illegally distributed over a million times before its official release. Nintendo is seeking damages and aims to cease the availability of the Yuzu emulator. This follows a previous DMCA takedown notice sent by Nintendo to Lockpick, a homebrew application used for transferring Switch files to a PC, which was also utilized to leak the mentioned Zelda game.

Last year's release of "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" was a success, regardless of the piracy issues, with 20.28 million copies sold.

The Legend of Zelda franchise has long been a cornerstone of Nintendo's gaming offerings, with "Tears of the Kingdom" being the latest installment following the critically acclaimed "Breath of the Wild."
