Nintendo Switch globally shipped over 132 million times

Nov 07, 2023 2:45 PM

The latest update in the gaming industry reveals that the Nintendo Switch has achieved a significant milestone, with over 132 million units shipped globally. As of the end of September, this figure represents continued success for the hybrid console, entering its seventh year on the market. During the last fiscal quarter, which spans from July 1 to September 30, about 2.93 million Switch units were distributed worldwide.

Nintendo has expressed optimism for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, aiming to sell 15 million Switch consoles and 185 million games. Sales have seen a 2.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year, leading to a higher profit than initially expected. The rise in profit is partly attributed to the weakening yen and the consistent demand for the Switch despite the typical decline seen in console sales over time.

Additionally, Nintendo released a list of the Switch's best-selling titles, with "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" at the top, having sold 57.01 million units. The list also marks significant sales for other popular titles like "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" and "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate." Moreover, "Pikmin 4," released in July, has become the best-selling entry in its series with 2.61 million copies sold by September’s end.

While acknowledging the longstanding popularity of the Switch, Nintendo hints at the development of its successor. The company has previously stated that it plans for a smooth transition from the Switch to the new console for customers, with Nintendo Accounts playing a critical role in the process. However, no official details about the new console have been revealed yet.
