Title: "X Introduces New Feature to Restrict Replies to Verified Users Only"

Posted on October 10, 2023, the social media platform, 'X' (which was formerly known as Twitter), has announced a new feature. Now, users can limit replies to their posts solely to verified users. This new development comes on the heels of various intriguing features such as the option to make long posts, edit buttons, and the addition of a blue checkmark.

Earlier, users had the possibility to limit their posts to those they mention or those following them. This new update allows everyone to grant reply permission only to premium subscribers, provided the setting is activated.

This feature seems designed to counter trolling, harassment, and the widespread dissemination of false information. Interestingly, to become a verified user, one has to go through certain security checks such as payment verification, phone number verification, or government ID confirmation.

However, there are concerns that this new setting might be misused as bots can also be verified - users only need to pay to subscribe to the 'Premium' service to earn the verification checkmark.

This becomes particularly significant noting that 'X' has been rated at the bottom compared to other social media sites concerning controlling misinformation and harassment.

This latest change comes almost a year after billionaire Elon Musk became the owner of the company. Nearly 11 months ago, Musk also announced that premium subscribers would be granted verification checkmarks at a subscription cost of $8 per month.
