Nintendo has updated its financial outlook based on robust sales, with a profit forecast increase for the ongoing fiscal year. Contributing to Nintendo’s success are strong sales for the Nintendo Switch, despite anticipation for the next-generation console, and major title releases.

The company witnessed a substantial increase in sales and profit compared to the previous year, marking the highest earnings since the launch of the Switch. Nintendo sold 6.84 million Switch units within six months, attributing much of the sales to the popular OLED model.

Impressive sales figures for flagship games were highlighted, with "Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" reaching 19.5 million copies sold. Additionally, the success of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" apparently drove up sales for "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe." A slate of new games was also announced, including "Super Mario RPG" and "Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD".

Despite these successes, overall sales for the Switch indicate a downward trend in comparison to previous years. Nonetheless, the forecast remains positive, with 15 million units expected to be sold in the financial year. With development kits reportedly sent to studios, a new Nintendo console, possibly the Switch 2, is projected for release in 2024. However, details about the new console’s features and backward compatibility are yet not fully disclosed.

Upcoming game titles and projected declines for the existing Switch console suggest a transitional phase for Nintendo, as they prepare for the next generation of gaming hardware. The exact launch date for the new console remains unconfirmed.
