Feb 01, 2024 1:40 PM

The open-world creature collection game Palworld has achieved remarkable sales figures, surpassing 12 million copies on Steam and attracting over 7 million players on Xbox consoles. Developer Pocket Pair announced Palworld as the most successful third-party launch on Game Pass. A roadmap outlining upcoming updates was shared, which includes fixes for prominent bugs, AI improvements for 'pals', the addition of PvP through an arena, as well as cross-play capabilities. Players can also look forward to discovering new islands, pals, and bosses. Palworld launched in Early Access on January 19 on Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Game Pass, offering an experience where players collect pals to assist with farm tasks, protection, or to sell, all while exploring various dungeons. An update was already released for the PC version, with details shared in a recent tweet.

What is Palworld?

Palworld is a multiplayer, open-world survival crafting game where players capture and breed creatures called 'pals.' These companions can help with farming, fighting, and crafting, and the game includes elements of base building and exploration in a fantasy setting. Palworld offers a unique twist with the ability to use pals as resources, which has generated discussion within its community regarding the treatment of in-game creatures.

Extra Background Information: Palworld presents an interesting blend of creature-collecting reminiscent of hit franchises like Pokémon, combined with survival mechanics found in games like Minecraft. It takes place in a vibrant, blocky world where the main focus is not only on battling with the creatures, called pals, but also utilizing them for various activities such as building, farming, and crafting. The ethical choices players make regarding the treatment of their pals add a moral component to the game. While still in Early Access, Palworld has quickly gained attention for its unique gameplay elements and the potential depth of its creature interaction systems.
