Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, expressed his enthusiasm in revisiting older IPs owned by Xbox Studios during a recent episode of the Official Xbox Podcast. Hexen, a 1995 Raven Software FPS now owned by Xbox, was specifically mentioned multiple times as a franchise he's eager to see someone from Xbox reinterpret or modernize. However, Spencer emphasized that such revitalization efforts should only be undertaken by teams genuinely interested in the chosen franchise. Spencer reassured that Xbox isn't forcing any development teams to bring back older franchises that lack an enthusiastic team behind them.

On the podcast, Spencer articulated Xbox's strategy for its owned IPs, explaining that he often meets with the Xbox teams to understand their passions and is more than willing to allow those teams to delve into Xbox's heritage for franchises they personally resonate with. He stated, "I just don't think that a team working on something that isn't their passion leads to the best result." He also suggested that Xbox Game Pass could serve as a viable platform for rejuvenating franchises that might not necessarily need full-scale projects.

Spencer also mentioned other franchises desired for revival. He recently expressed his interest in seeing a MechAssault revival at the Tokyo Game Show. Sarah Bond, another Xbox executive, acknowledged fan requests for a return of Blizzard's StarCraft series. This sentiment comes after Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard which led fans to create a wishlist of games they would like to see revived - among popular choices were the dormant Guitar Hero series and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

Regardless, the main takeaway is that Spencer is very much enthusiastic about revisiting classic Xbox-owned games, particularly Hexen. With this, he is urging the teams to pitch a new Hexen game.
