PlayStation delays half of 12 planned live-service games

Nov 09, 2023 11:57 AM

PlayStation has announced a postponement for half of its twelve planned live-service games until after March 2026. Six titles are still expected to release by that date, with the remaining six subject to further development and quality control, following a strategic evaluation in collaboration with Bungie, now part of PlayStation Studios.

This emphasis on quality comes after concerns were raised about ongoing projects, including the anticipated multiplayer game from Naughty Dog, based on The Last of Us, which has faced its own delays. There are also reports and rumors surrounding staff layoffs at Naughty Dog and Bungie, affecting projects like the Bungie's Marathon, hinting at possible reasons for the delay in release schedules.

PlayStation aims to ensure that its live-service games can be played for longer periods, focusing on creating long-lasting gaming experiences. Despite rumors of development stalls and layoffs, PlayStation maintains that all the delayed games are still in development.
