PlayStation Plus loses Final Fantasy, but the real tragedy overshadows it

Apr 17, 2024 11:43 AM

PlayStation Plus is poised for a significant shift as a massive Final Fantasy collection and other beloved titles are gearing up to leave the platform. On May 21, PlayStation Plus members will need to bid farewell to iconic Final Fantasy installments such as Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10/10-2, 12: The Zodiac Age, and 15: Royal Edition. However, the online gaming community has paid particular attention to another outgoing game: Monster Jam Steel Titans 2. Highlighting the unique thrill of monster truck racing, which can't be found in Final Fantasy's expansive narratives, this off-road racing game offers freestyle tricks, races, and themed worlds that align with the game's larger-than-life trucks.

Apart from these titles, gamers will also have to part with other appreciated games like World of Final Fantasy, Abzu, and My Friend Pedro, among others. Diversifying the range of game genres, these departures will leave a noticeable gap in the service's offering, with a majority for the PS4 platform. Nonetheless, new additions like Dave the Diver will fill in some of this void.

What games are leaving PlayStation Plus, and when?

Several titles, most notably a suite of Final Fantasy games and Monster Jam Steel Titans 2, are departing from PlayStation Plus on May 21st.

Final Fantasy is a series that has become synonymous with the JRPG genre. With an extensively storied history since its inception in 1987, the Final Fantasy series has explored a myriad of worlds, characters, and stories that have resonated with fans for decades. Meanwhile, Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 takes inspiration from the real-world motorsport of monster truck rallies, delivering an adrenaline-pumping experience that contrasts the strategic and narrative depth found in role-playing games.

The departure of classic Final Fantasy titles from PlayStation Plus on May 21st marks a bittersweet shift for fans of the iconic JRPG series, while the absence of Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 adds a unique void in the lineup, highlighting the diverse offerings of the platform. The move reflects the dynamic ebb and flow of gaming content on subscription services, inviting players to savor beloved titles before they make their exit.

Wow, it's a bummer to see those Final Fantasy classics leaving PlayStation Plus, especially for fans who may not have had the chance to experience them yet. And saying goodbye to Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 adds a unique, adrenaline-fueled aspect that will be missed. It's always interesting to see how the lineup changes, but these departures definitely leave some big shoes to fill.
