PlayStation VR2: No Adapter Needed for PC Gaming

Aug 08, 2024 1:18 PM

Sony's PlayStation VR2 is now compatible with PC VR gaming, allowing users to play titles like Half-Life: Alyx without necessarily needing to purchase the $60 adapter. Some players have successfully connected the PSVR2 directly to their graphics card using a USB-C cable and the PSVR2 Steam App, thanks to the presence of VirtualLink ports on select graphics cards. However, VR compatibility may vary, as newer GPUs like the GeForce RTX 30 and 40 series lack this port. While this opens the door for enhanced gaming options, certain PSVR2 features like eye tracking are not supported on PC.

Can I use PSVR2 on PC without an adapter?

Yes, if your graphics card has a VirtualLink USB-C port, you can connect the PSVR2 directly to the card using a USB-C cable and download the appropriate software, bypassing the need for the adapter.

The PlayStation VR2 is Sony's second-generation virtual reality headset released in February 2023. It boasts advanced features like headset feedback and eye tracking, offering a more immersive gaming experience. Despite its strong technical specifications, the PSVR2 has faced challenges in gaining traction in the market, with reports indicating a significant reduction in funding for VR development within Sony. However, PC compatibility is seen as a potentially game-changing factor, enabling access to an extensive library of VR titles beyond the PlayStation ecosystem.
