Rec Room devs say PS VR2 not worth it yet

Jan 28, 2024 8:36 AM

The gaming community has been discussing the recent announcement from Rec Room's developer that they cannot justify the costs of bringing their popular VR game to PlayStation VR2. Though they considered the possibilities and have worked with Sony for years, the numbers did not align to make a PS VR2 version economically viable. This comes amidst user criticism regarding the lack of a substantial game library for the PS VR2, and follows the closure of First Contact Entertainment, another studio that released a game for the VR platform. While Rec Room is available on other VR devices like Meta Quest and SteamVR, the developer's decision points to a possibly limited PS VR2 user base as a factor in their decision.

Why won't Rec Room be available on PlayStation VR2?

Rec Room's developer has determined that the costs of developing for PlayStation VR2 do not make financial sense at this time, considering the current user base and other economic factors. Despite a history of collaboration with Sony and the success on other platforms, the developers are not pursuing a PS VR2 version presently.

Rec Room has been a notable game in the VR community, available across multiple platforms and known for its engaging social experiences and user-generated content. Its absence on the PS VR2 highlights the challenges facing Sony's VR platform in terms of attracting developers and expanding its game catalog, which is essential for the success of any gaming system.
