The recent episode of season 7 of Rick and Morty, titled "The Jerrick Trap," brought back an old character, Memory Rick, leading fans to speculate on the future storylines of the show. Memory Rick's return wasn't a simple throwback but seems to be setting up future plot developments.
"The Jerrick Trap" revolves around a mishap where Rick and Jerry's minds get swapped after an argument. Trying to make a point about Jerry's stupidity, they decide to exchange minds, leading to disastrous results that involve memory entanglement, a misadventure with an intergalactic crime lord, a makeshift, Human Centipede-esque being, and a close encounter with a rake.
The episode’s and Memory Rick's appearance centers around the post-credits tag where he sifts through Jerry's mind as a result of the mind swap. Despite having a hard time figuring out a way out due to Jerry's limited understanding of technology, something significant is in the works involving Memory Rick.
Memory Rick, a character encased within Birdperson's memories, was first introduced two years ago in the eighth episode of Season 5, "Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort." Even though Memory Rick decided to stay in Birdperson's mind, he found himself trapped in Jerry’s mind after their minds got swapped in the garage in season 7, Episode 2.
The future of Memory Rick and his role in the upcoming storylines remains undisclosed, adding to the unpredictability of the Rick and Morty series. It's being speculated that Memory Rick's return is significant for the plot development in the future seasons, but nothing is confirmed yet.
As Rick and Morty has already been greenlit through Season 10, fans are expecting a substantial plot twist involving Memory Rick. Nonetheless, they are looking forward to what the series' creative team has to offer.
