Sega has shifted gears with its game development studio, Creative Assembly, refocusing the team on creating offline RTS titles after the unexpected cancellation of their multiplayer FPS project, Hyenas. Internal reviews on profitability and quality outcomes in the European market prompted Sega to pull the plug on Hyenas and other undisclosed titles earlier this year. Sega President and CEO Haruki Satomi expressed that while Creative Assembly ventured into online FPS with Hyenas, their expertise in the offline RTS genre led to the decision to cancel the project to meet user satisfaction and long-term online competition standards. Fans of the Total War series from Creative Assembly can anticipate a stronger emphasis on this specialty genre moving forward. Additionally, Sega has been in the news due to a labour complaint alleging the company didn't negotiate with the union before informing temporary staff about job outsourcing.

Why did Sega cancel the development of Hyenas?

Sega canceled the development of Hyenas because, after reviewing its European operations for profitability, the company decided that the game would not meet their quality standards for a competitive online game that could be operated successfully over a long period. They plan to redirect Creative Assembly's focus to developing games within their proven expertise in the offline RTS genre.
