sony launches psvr2 steam app just before pc support arrives

Jul 25, 2024 1:45 PM

The PlayStation VR2 is set to gain new compatibility features, allowing gamers to play Steam VR games on the headset starting with a new app launching on August 6, 2024. This update broadens PSVR2's gaming library beyond the PlayStation 5, bringing exciting VR titles like Half-Life: Alyx to the platform. Users will need a $60 PC adapter and a VR-ready gaming PC with specifications such as Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT for optimal performance. Although the PSVR2 will lose some key features like eye-tracking and adaptive triggers on PC, it will still support 4K resolution and a 110-degree field of view.

What are the system requirements to run Steam VR games on PSVR2?

To run Steam VR games on PSVR2, you need a VR-ready gaming PC equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, or a newer GPU such as the RTX 40 series, along with a $60 adapter.

Launched in February 2023, the PlayStation VR2 has seen fluctuating momentum due to limited first-party game support and budget cuts. However, it maintains high technical specs such as top-notch visual quality and immersive Sense controllers, which earned it a 9/10 review on IGN. Expanding its compatibility with Steam VR games could revive interest in the VR headset.
