The gaming company Square Enix has finally put an end to a long-standing debate among Final Fantasy VII fans regarding the pronunciation of a character's name. That character is Cait Sith, a feline fictional figure who rides a large stuffed toy in the game.

Fans have been arguing over the correct way to say Cait Sith since Final Fantasy VII was first released in 1997. Some believed the name should be pronounced according to its Gaelic origins as "Ket Shee," while others followed its English spelling, pronouncing it as "Kate Sihth."

In a recent post on Twitter, Square Enix confirmed that in the upcoming game Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Cait Sith's name should indeed be said as "Kate Sihth," essentially how it is written. This confirmation is a first, as the character's name hasn't been spoken in previous installments like Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus.

Cait Sith will be a playable character in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, set to launch on PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. According to IGN’s preview, the game strikes a balance between familiar storytelling and new explorations, bringing subtle changes that slightly deviate from the original FF7 version fans are used to.
