Starz has decided to axe its wrestling series, Heels, alongside two other shows, Blindspotting and Run the World. The cancellations were confirmed with the network by IGN. Additionally, the network will not be progressing with the unaired drama, The Venery of Samantha Bird. Despite the network's creative admiration for these shows, they failed to attract sizable audiences, making it untenable to continue their production.
Nonetheless, there is optimism about potential collaborations with the show producers in the future.
The now-canceled show, Heels, depicted Stephen Amell in the role of Jack Spade, an inheritor of Duffy Wrestling League who strived for national recognition. Blindspotting was a sequel to the 2018 film of the same name, created and executive-produced by the movie's writers, producers, and stars, Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs. Meanwhile, Run the World portrayed the lives and careers of a group of women based in Harlem.
The trio of series had just aired their second seasons.
The Venery of Samantha Bird, which was to feature Katherine Langford from 13 Reasons Why as the star, fell victim to strikes by its writers and actors, leading to its discontinuation. The significant decision to cancel four shows concurrently comes as the network's popular series, Outlander, draws near its concluding season. The fate of another show, The Minx, is yet undecided after it finished its second season recently.
These key decisions are part of the network's strategic shifts under the watchful eye of Senior News Editor, Alex Stedman.
