Switch 2 Zelda games won’t offer cloud save backups
Apr 17, 2025 11:30 AMThe Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will not allow cloud saves for data backup. The store pages for these titles explicitly mention that they do not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature, unlike other Switch 2 Edition games. Although the Japanese store pages still require a Nintendo Switch Online membership for save data storage, the reason for the lack of cloud support for these Zelda titles remains a mystery. Players can transfer save files from the original Switch but will be unable to create new cloud backups even with fresh saves on the Switch 2 Edition. Notably, these editions offer enhanced visuals and include achievements, but Breath of the Wild will not feature the original game’s DLC.
Why don't the Switch 2 editions of Zelda games support cloud saves? The specific reason for the absence of cloud save support in the Switch 2 editions of Zelda games remains unclear, with inquiries made to Nintendo for clarification.
The Legend of Zelda franchise is renowned for its rich storytelling and gameplay innovation, with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom being critically acclaimed entries. Huh, no cloud saves for these Zelda remasters That’s a strange choice—especially when achievements are included, making progress feel even more precious. Here’s hoping Nintendo at least gives us a clear explanation soon

Kinda weird that Nintendo's locking down cloud saves for these Zelda ports—feels like an odd step back when the Switch 2 is supposed to be all about upgrades. Maybe they’re worried about save-scumming or something, but it’s still a bummer for players who rely on backups.
