Rockstar Games previously announced GTA 6 for 2025 release, specifically mentioning PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms, disappointingly leaving no mention of PC or Nintendo Switch support.

Discussions by Digital Foundry professionals suggest that while the Nintendo Switch has succeeded in handling impressive titles, the advanced features and demanding specifications of GTA 6 may be a bridge too far. They point out that the graphical intensity of GTA 6, particularly with regards to its ray tracing capabilities and deeply simulated world full of unique NPCs, might surpass what the next-gen Switch can handle. Furthermore, with Rockstar having skipped releasing the hugely popular GTA 5 on the current Nintendo Switch, expectations for a Switch 2 version of GTA 6 may need tempering.

Although the Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to be officially detailed by Nintendo, reports suggest it could launch in the second half of 2024. Rumors indicate it could feature an LCD screen instead of OLED to cut costs and maintain cartridge compatibility for physical games.
