The Boys star hints at game-changing franchise finale

Jul 09, 2024 11:50 AM

The Boys TV series, which has been critically acclaimed since its debut in 2019, is set to conclude with its fifth season, as confirmed by showrunner Eric Kripke and Prime Video. Laz Alonso, who portrays Mother’s Milk on the show, has been advocating for a franchise-ending movie to tie up the series' storylines. However, his pitches have not yet been successful. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Alonso discussed his vision for a final film that would continue from a cliffhanger at the end of Season 5. Kripke hinted that ideas for the series finale had always been part of his plan.

Alonso's pitch imagines an epic conclusion that could potentially involve a large-scale superhero battle or a more introspective look at the aftermath of the show’s events. The Boys has consistently provided sharp satire of real-world events and superhero narratives, often parodying elements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show has also expanded into two spinoffs, an animated series called The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V, which has already been renewed for a second season.

Will there be a The Boys movie to conclude the series?

Currently, there are no confirmed plans for a The Boys movie despite actor Laz Alonso's efforts to pitch the idea. Showrunner Eric Kripke and Prime Video have only confirmed that Season 5 will conclude the series.

Based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys has been a standout for Prime Video with its brutal action and dark humor. The narrative follows a group of vigilantes aiming to take down corrupt superheroes led by the ominous Homelander. The show has successfully carved its niche by subverting typical superhero tropes and incorporating gritty, real-world satire, setting it apart from other superhero-themed content. The show’s spinoffs, including The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V, further expand its universe.
