The Day Before Devs Emerge Again, Seeking Your Money Once More

Sep 26, 2024 10:29 PM

Fntastic, the studio behind the controversial game The Day Before, has resurfaced, requesting community support through a new Kickstarter campaign. Following a disastrous early access launch and the studio's brief closure, Fntastic is attempting to regain trust by asking fans to contribute to the revival of their projects, notably a new multiplayer co-op game called Escape Factory. The campaign aims to raise $15,535 and includes a demo on Steam, but so far has gathered minimal backing. The studio acknowledges its past mistakes, emphasizing a commitment to honesty, transparency, and professionalism in its new direction.

nWhat is The Day Before and why did it get such a negative reception?

The Day Before is a post-apocalyptic open-world MMO that garnered attention for its ambitious trailer and concept but faced severe criticism upon release in December 2023. Issues included delays, marketing controversies, and a team lacking AAA experience. The game's overwhelming negativity led to the server shutdown only a month after launch, resulting in refunds for players and a tarnished reputation for the studio.

Originally announced in 2021, The Day Before was met with excitement but quickly became mired in skepticism. The game's development was plagued by challenges, including a trademark dispute, accusations of unpaid labor, and community backlash. After a tumultuous launch, the studio's future appeared uncertain until this recent bid for support through a new crowdfunding initiative.

It's always a wild ride when a studio asks for a second chance after a rocky launch, and Fntastic's push for community support definitely feels like a gamble. Fingers crossed they deliver on their promises this time—transparency and honesty in game development should be the bare minimum we expect

It's always tough to see a studio like Fntastic stumble, but it's interesting to see them pivot and attempt to regain community trust through a Kickstarter campaign. Hopefully, this new project can carve out a better path and deliver the transparency they’re promising—players definitely deserve that after the rollercoaster ride of The Day Before

It's always a wild ride in the gaming world, and Fntastic's attempt to regroup with a Kickstarter feels like a classic case of once bitten, twice shy. It'll be interesting to see if the community is willing to give them another shot or if skepticism will keep this project in the shadow of its predecessor.
