Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios is exploring the idea of reviving old franchises through the medium of board games. The first potentially on the list is Zoo Tycoon, which was created and released by Elite: Dangerous studio Frontier Developments and Microsoft Studios on November 22, 2013, for Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Xbox Game Studios' executive producer, Robert Jerauld mentioned in an interview with Xbox Wire that even though not all franchises are still being actively developed, they have a loyal fanbase that continues to appreciate them. The creation of a Zoo Tycoon board game illustrates a perfect example of how Microsoft can appreciatively respond to such fans, expressing their gratitude for their continuous dedication.

While no specific names have been given for other possible franchises to receive the board game treatment, Xbox Game Studios does have a plethora of choices, including Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata, Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Project Gotham Racing, MechAssault, and many others.

Even amidst these endeavors, Xbox is working on rejuvenating some of their popular titles that haven't seen the light of day in a while. For instance, Fable 3, which last had a full release in 2010, is officially under development for a new entry in this well-loved fantasy role-playing game. Likewise, Perfect Dark, last launched in 2010, was also announced for a reboot in 2020, with very little information revealed since.

All of these exciting ventures aim to reconnect players with their old favorites, whether through digital or tabletop gaming experiences.
