Xbox system update adds keyboard mapping to controllers

Oct 27, 2023 9:12 AM

Microsoft has released an Xbox system update that adds keyboard mapping to controllers. This essentially means that players can make the buttons on the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive Controller function as keyboard buttons. For example, in Sea of Thieves, a button can be assigned to quickly select a weapon or other item. This gives a controller more input options in games that have many actions but few remapping options or do not support controllers.

The update also allows game captures to be imported to Clipchamp, a video editor that comes standard with Windows 11. Clipchamp now includes an Xbox category, allowing players to select videos that they have stored via the Xbox cloud.

Finally, the update enables users to set all preferences on one device so that they apply across all accounts and devices owned. This functionality adds another level of customization and ease-of-use for Xbox players.
