Yakuza's Missing Iconic Song Surfaces with Kiryu's Surprise Clip

Oct 28, 2024 3:29 PM

Prime Video's adaptation of the popular Like a Dragon: Yakuza series has sparked mixed reactions due to its omission of iconic elements, particularly Kiryu's fan-favorite karaoke song "Baka Mitai." While the series offers a gritty crime drama filled with intense battles and deep emotional moments, it lacks much of the lighthearted and eccentric scenarios that make the games so beloved. To address fan disappointment, Prime Video released a clip of Kiryu singing “Baka Mitai,” showcasing Ryoma Takeuchi's performance while also evoking nostalgia for the character's past.

Will "Baka Mitai" appear in the Like a Dragon: Yakuza series?

While "Baka Mitai" is notably absent from Like a Dragon: Yakuza, Prime Video has shared a clip of Kiryu performing the song, which highlights its significance to the character's journey and his relationships throughout the series.

The Like a Dragon franchise, previously known as Yakuza, has captivated audiences with its blend of action, drama, and quirky side stories. The series revolves around Kazuma Kiryu, who navigates the criminal underworld while dealing with personal struggles. Since its inception, the franchise has gained a cult following, celebrated for its unique storytelling and memorable characters, making the omission of key elements a topic of passion for long-time fans. This adaptation aims to bring the essence of the games to a new audience, though it has faced scrutiny for its failure to capture the series' signature humor and bizarre escapades.

It’s always a tricky balance to adapt beloved games like Like a Dragon: Yakuza, especially when fans treasure both the serious and the quirky. I feel like missing out on iconic moments like Kiryu's karaoke might alienate some diehard fans, but at least they know how to stir up nostalgia with that clip

It’s always a gamble when adapting beloved games, and missing out on iconic moments like Kiryu's karaoke can really rub fans the wrong way. Still, it's cool that they included a nod to Baka Mitai, as it shows they recognize its cultural significance even if the series doesn’t fully embrace the game's quirky charm.

It's a bummer to see Baka Mitai left out, especially considering how integral it is to Kiryu's character and the whole vibe of the Yakuza series. That clip they released is a nice touch, though—it’s like a little gift for fans who just want to feel that nostalgic connection amidst all the drama
