11 bit Studios reimagines This War of Mine

Polish developer 11 bit Studios has announced that it is reworking the acclaimed game This War of Mine. The announcement came during the company’s financial report, where it discussed its 2025 results. First released in 2014, This War of Mine was the game that helped 11 bit Studios gain worldwide recognition, offering a unique perspective on war through the eyes of civilians living through a conflict.

A fresh take on a classic

According to the report, the This War of Mine reimagining is not a standard remaster. 11 bit Studios says the game will be rebuilt from the ground up with a focus on a multi-year lifecycle. That means the studio will be looking not only at the visual and technical side, but also at long-term player engagement.

Project P15 and beyond

The reimagining is known internally under the codename P15. 11 bit CEO Przemysław Marszał emphasized the importance of established brands, saying that both P15 and the in-development Frostpunk 1886 offer a modern, fresh take on the games that defined 11 bit Studios’ success.

More projects at 11 bit Studios

Alongside the This War of Mine reimagining, 11 bit Studios is also working on other projects. Frostpunk 1886 is a remake of the original Frostpunk, currently planned for release in 2027-2028. In addition, there are new games in development, including a title set in the Frostpunk universe (codename P13) and two new original IPs (codenames P12 and P14).

In a recent earnings call, Marszał said development on This War of Mine is currently in the concept phase. The studio wants this version to attract new players while also giving returning fans a refreshed experience. The reimagining of This War of Mine will place strong emphasis on the themes and moral dilemmas that defined the original, while adapting to the modern context of global conflicts.

Given the political sensitivity of current conflicts, such as the situation in Ukraine, it will be interesting to see how 11 bit Studios shapes the content of the reimagining. The studio has ambitious plans, including the development of the new game P12, which promises multiple gameplay elements and draws inspiration from This War of Mine.

In the recent earnings call, the CEO also said that reinterpreting This War of Mine is an exciting challenge, especially considering how many current events could serve as reference points for the new game.
