Daniel Radcliffe vindt zijn prestaties in Harry Potter nu minder 'cringe'

Daniel Radcliffe, the star of the Harry Potter film series, recently shared how his view of his early acting performances has changed. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Radcliffe said he now feels much less awkward watching his younger self than he used to. The shift came after he heard Andrew Garfield, best known for playing Spider-Man, speak positively about Radcliffe's performance in the series.

Good or not?

Garfield, who had recently watched the Harry Potter films for the first time, described Radcliffe as "really good" in the role of Harry Potter. When that comment was put to him, Radcliffe replied: "That's fantastic, but I don't agree with him about my performances in Potter." He said he now has more distance from his earlier work, unlike in his teenage years when he felt "cringe" about it.

Reflecting on the early films

Radcliffe said he now sees the earlier films as "sweet." "When I was 18, I felt uncomfortable watching the earlier films, but now I actually think they're kind of cute," he said. He also explained that he still feels uneasy watching scenes from when he was 18 or 19, and expects his view of his performances to keep changing over time.

Favorite Harry Potter films

When ranking the eight Harry Potter films, Radcliffe named the final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, as his favorite. That was followed by Goblet of Fire in second place. Radcliffe noted that Half-Blood Prince is his least favorite film, though that had more to do with his own performance than the movie itself.

Warm welcome for the new generation

Radcliffe also spoke about the new actor set to play Harry Potter in the upcoming HBO series. He sent 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin a message wishing him well with production, which is expected to continue into the next decade. Radcliffe shared his feelings about the young cast, saying: "I see those photos of him and all the other kids and I just want to hug them. They look so young."

With the upcoming HBO series on the horizon, Radcliffe looks back on his time in the franchise positively and remains supportive of the new generation of actors beginning their own journey in the magical world of Harry Potter.
