The Division Resurgence: new free-to-play game launched on PC
Ubisoft has recently released a new game in The Division series for PC called The Division Resurgence. This RPG looter-shooter is free to play and gives players the chance to be part of a world where they can explore and fight in their own way.
Release details
The Division Resurgence is now available via Ubisoft Connect, but it’s important to note that it is not available on Steam. The release is part of the early access model, which means Ubisoft is using this phase for technical testing ahead of the official launch of version 1.0, currently planned for August 2026.
Gameplay and features
The game is set in the iconic New York City backdrop, just like the earlier entries in the series. Players can enjoy a range of elements, including the PvPvE open-world Dark Zone and a PvE campaign that further expands on the events of The Division 1 and The Division 2. In addition, the game supports cross-saves and cross-progression between the PC and mobile versions, improving accessibility.
Seasonal content and updates
Ubisoft has also released the roadmap for the first season of the mobile version of The Division Resurgence. Season 1, which begins on May 12, 2026, will add limited-time events and extra cosmetics to the game. This season is focused on improving the player experience and introducing new features. After Season 1 launches, new phases will be added to the game every six weeks. In June, an update will arrive for the mobile version, bringing more cosmetics and weapon skins, while Season 2 is set to arrive in August.
Timeline
2026-04-29: The Division Resurgence launched on PC in early access.
2026-05-12: Start of Season 1 for the mobile version of The Division Resurgence.
2026-06: Update for the mobile game with additional cosmetics and weapon skins.
2026-08: Launch of The Division Resurgence version 1.0 and release of Season 2.
Alongside these updates, Ubisoft has also announced a partnership with Backbone, a controller accessory for mobile phones. Players using the Backbone controller can earn in-game rewards such as a facemask, vest, and weapon accessory. Full details on the rewards are available on the Backbone website.
Future of the series
As for the future of the franchise, Ubisoft has confirmed that The Division 3 is in development, though without franchise executive producer Julian Gerighty, who has left Ubisoft to work on Battlefield. The company is currently undergoing major changes, with a reorganization that has led to a new Tencent-backed subsidiary focused on titles such as The Division, Rainbow Six, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed. While there have been cuts and cancellations of some titles, many new games are in development, including multiple new IPs and several new Assassin’s Creed titles, such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, which is due out in July 2026.
