Dungeons and Dragons: New official actual play series

Dungeons and Dragons has recently announced the launch of a new official actual play series called Dungeon Masters. The series is notable for bringing together actors from well-known titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Dispatch, and Critical Role for its first campaign. This marks not only a new phase for Dungeons and Dragons, but also a noticeable evolution in how tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) are presented on digital platforms.

Concept and production

Dungeon Masters features a more polished integration and production value, setting it apart from earlier Wizards of the Coast projects. The actual play series arrives amid the growing popularity of the genre, which has expanded dramatically over the past decade, in part thanks to the impact of Critical Role. The show is built around official Dungeons and Dragons content, a cinematic presentation, and even an original score composed by David Arkenstone, known for his work on the World of Warcraft franchise.

The first campaign: Ashes of the Black Rose

The very first campaign, titled Ashes of the Black Rose, takes place in the Ravenloft Domain of Dread, where four adventurers are trapped under the rule of the Death Knight, Lord Soth. Players will use content from the upcoming book Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, which releases on June 16. The main cast of the first campaign consists of well-known voice actors directly tied to the cast of Baldur’s Gate 3.

The cast has earned plenty of respect in the gaming community. Both Devora Wilde and Neil Newbon are known from Baldur’s Gate 3 as Lae’zel and Astarion, respectively. Christian Navarro also made a guest appearance in Critical Role, while Mayanna Berrin appeared in Dispatch. Jasmine Bhullar brings extensive experience as a Dungeon Master from other shows such as Dimension 20 and DesiQuest.

After the launch of Dungeon Masters in April 2026, new episodes will be available every Wednesday at 6:30 PM PT. It is currently unknown how long the episodes will run and how long the Ashes of the Black Rose campaign will continue. However, this is only the first of many campaigns that will be produced as part of this actual play series, using official Dungeons and Dragons settings and rules.
