Elden Ring: first look at the film with Queen Marika

Interest in the Elden Ring film, produced by A24, is growing as more details and images are released. Writer and director Alex Garland is currently filming several scenes, and a number of recently leaked photos have shown the set and hinted at which characters from the game may appear in the movie.

Filming location and set design

Filming is taking place at Greenwich Naval College in South London. The location has been chosen to bring the game’s capital, Leyndell, to life. Photos from the set show it covered in fog, possibly from dry ice or smoke machines, and several green screens are visible, suggesting that heavy CGI will be used. That opens the door for large-scale elements such as the Erdtree to appear in the film.

The story and the characters

One of the more notable images shows a box labeled “Leyndell Streets,” confirming that the city will play an important role in the film. Leyndell sits at the roots of the Erdtree, and it remains unclear how the movie will portray this iconic location. A container labeled “Stormveil” was also spotted, referring to Stormveil Castle, home to one of the game’s key bosses, Godrick the Grafted.

Visible elements and possible storylines

The presence of gallows on set, similar to those associated with the Dung Eater in Elden Ring’s opening cinematic, suggests that the infamous figure may also be referenced in the film. The Dung Eater is a depraved character tied to ritual violence, and his storyline could add another layer to the adaptation. There are also rumors that Emma Laird, one of the lead actors, may be playing Queen Marika, although that has not been officially confirmed.

Interest in the film is high, especially with the promise of iconic locations and characters fans will recognize from the game. With Garland directing and such striking source material, hopes are high for an adaptation that captures the essence of Elden Ring.
