Evercade launches Spectrum and Commodore 64 handhelds

Blaze Entertainment, known for its Evercade consoles, has recently announced that it will release handheld versions of two iconic 80s home computers, the Spectrum and the Commodore 64. These new handhelds, simply called The Spectrum Handheld and The C64 Handheld, are scheduled to launch on 15 October 2026. For retro gaming fans, these devices promise a unique way to experience classic games.

Handheld specifications

Both handhelds feature a clamshell design with the following dimensions: 136 mm wide, 26 mm high, and 86 mm deep. This compact size makes them easy to carry in a pocket. When opened, users will find a 4.3-inch IPS screen, delivering vibrant visuals while playing.

In terms of controls, the handhelds include a d-pad, four action buttons, and four function buttons. There are also menu, start, and select buttons. What makes the Spectrum Handheld unique are its rubber function buttons, which provide an authentic retro feel.

Included games and expansion options

Both handhelds come with 25 pre-installed games from their respective systems. This gives players a solid selection of classics to dive into. In addition, a MicroSD slot is included, allowing users to play their own games. That is a welcome option, especially since the pre-installed lineups may not satisfy everyone.

The Spectrum Handheld also includes a USB I/O port on the back, allowing keyboards and joysticks to be connected, further improving usability.

Pricing and pre-orders

Both handhelds are priced at £109.99, with pre-orders available now. For collectors, Limited Edition versions have also been created, sold exclusively through retailer FunStock for £129.99. These editions include not only the handheld, but also a hard-shell carry case and a magazine: a specially made version of Zzap! for the Spectrum and a version of Crash! for the C64.

Timeline

  • 30 April 2026: Blaze Entertainment announces The Spectrum Handheld and The C64 Handheld.

  • 15 October 2026: The handhelds officially launch on the market.

  • Pre-orders became available immediately after the handhelds were announced.

With these handhelds, the makers hope to bridge the nostalgia of the 80s with a modern gaming experience. The mix of authenticity and portability makes them an interesting offer for both newcomers and veterans in the gaming world.
