Ghost of Yotei: Legends receives disappointing announcement from Sucker Punch

Ghost of Yotei, developed by Sucker Punch Productions, has launched its Legends multiplayer mode, but fans’ expectations have not been fully met. The multiplayer mode, which was originally released on 10 March 2026, has now received its final major update. This was confirmed by lead designer Darren Bridges, who announced via a post on the PlayStation.Blog that there will be no more major updates for the mode.

Announcement of Legends

The Legends multiplayer mode was first announced in February 2026. It was an exciting moment for fans, as Sucker Punch was known for supporting its previous multiplayer modes, such as the one in Ghost of Tsushima. The mode offers both narrative missions and a Survival mode, in which four players work together against increasingly difficult waves of enemies.

Final major update

On 10 April 2026, the Raid update was released, which also turned out to be the last major planned update for Legends. This update wrapped up the story of the Yōtei Six, which Bridges said was an important conclusion for players involved in the mode.

Limitations and future

During the announcement, it was not made clear why Sucker Punch is ending support for further major updates just two months after the mode’s launch. This is surprising, given that Ghost of Tsushima’s Legends mode continued to receive new content and updates for years after release. It remains unclear how much support the game will receive in terms of smaller patches for bug fixes and balance changes.

Despite the disappointment over the lack of updates, Ghost of Yotei remains a popular PS5 exclusive. The game was well received with a score of 8/10 at launch, showing that while it does not bring revolutionary changes to open-world games, it delivers a strong samurai fantasy with beautiful landscapes and satisfying action.
